Household Hazardous Waste Collection

Communities throughout Hampton Roads operate residential household hazardous waste collections. SPSA, VPPSA, Newport News Solid Waste Division and Gloucester all have programs to assist residents meet their household waste disposal needs.

Facilities are opened designated days so residents may bring products such as paint, pool chemicals, and pesticides to be disposed of safely and free of charge.  All waste products are disposed of safely and in an environmentally responsible manner. Occasionally special collections are joined with the scheduled events.  Watch your local newspaper for more information or contact your local drop off facility prior to the collection date. 

 

Gloucester County Collections:
Harmful Household Chemical Collections are conducted twice annually - spring and fall for residents of Gloucester. Dates and times are advertised in local newspapers and  The Beehive. For more information call the Clean Community Office: (804) 693-5370.

Newport News Collection:
The City of Newport News Public Works Department hosts quarterly Household Chemical Collection (HCC) events. These events are for NEWPORT NEWS RESIDENTS ONLY! No City Department, business, or medical waste can be accepted!

SPSA Facility Locations:
SPSA operates eight household hazardous waste collection facilities throughout Hampton Roads. These facilities are open on designated days so residents may bring products such as paint and pesticides to be disposed of safely, free of charge. Limit disposal to five gallons of liquid or 75 pounds of solid waste per visit.

VPPSA Collection Locations:
VPPSA operates three Household Chemical Collection sites for the residents of Hampton, Poquoson, Williamsburg, and York and James City Counties. Residents are notified through a flyer placed in their recycling bins quarterly of the schedules and in the local newspapers.  For more information call: (757) 259-9850 and speak with the Household Chemical Coordinator today!
