Keep Personal Information Safe!

When it comes to recycling your computer, it is important to remember to remove any and all personal information prior to disposal or donation. Erase your hard drive to make sure all personal data is removed.  Here are some ways to do just that:

  • Erase the data with a disk-cleaning software. By running a disk-erasing product multiple times ensures a complete wipe out of any retrievable data.  Software programs can be found on-line and in most computer software and program stores.

  • Hire an expert.  Call a reputable organization or retailer to remove the data for you.  They can do this either with software - or physically removing the hard drive.

  • Remove the hard drive. (You could also add the old drive to the new computer for access to old files of for extra memory space.) Call you computer dealer or local technician who can walk you through the process.
